Jaipur was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, who laid out his new capital on a grid of broad streets and bazaars. The walled city was painted its famous terracotta pink in 1876, to welcome a visiting Prince of Wales.
Above the plain, the Aravalli hills carry a chain of forts — Amber Palace, Jaigarh and Nahargarh — while the honeycomb façade of the Hawa Mahal looks down on the old city’s bazaars.
We show Jaipur by day and after dark: private sightseeing and photography tours, a shopping day in the walled-city bazaars, a small-group evening walk with kachori and lassi, and dinner at Chokhi Dhani.
